Corel Photobook/Picture Publisher 10DCE

with The Hidden Tools™

vs

Micrografx Picture Publisher 8

You Decide!

Revised 5/14/05

PLEASE NOTE: Corel Photobook and Picture Publisher 10DCE are the SAME PROGRAM except for the difference in their names. Corel Photobook is NOT the same as Corel PhotoPAINT!

I've done my best to make this information complete and accurate. If anything is missing here, it is most probably very minor. If you have specific questions regarding features in Photobook/PP10DCE with The Hidden Tools™ vs PP8, please email me.

Below is a list of the tools you Gain and Lose if you move from

Micrografx Picture Publisher 8 to Photobook/PP10DCE with The Hidden Tools™.

Corel Photobook is a modified, and renamed version of Picture Publisher 10 Professional.

The Hidden Tools™ is an update product I have produced that gives you access to

70+ Tools that exist in Photobook (and PP10DCE) but were previously unavailable.

YES, you WILL lose a few features if you stop using PP8, and ONLY use

Photobook/PP10DCE with The Hidden Tools™. Of course, you DO gain some nice tools which

I believe are more useful than the tools you lose.

If you rely on some of those tools that you lose, you can either stick with PP8 by itself,

OR use BOTH Photobook/PP10DCE with The Hidden Tools™ AND PP8.

Disabled or Limited Tools

in Photobook (with The Hidden Tools™)

That Picture Publisher 8 Has

BLUE TEXT indicates a workaround

*Indicates a Hidden Tool

NO Command Center (If you need this, you can use the *Macro Recorder to get similar functions. If ALL you need is a *LARGE number of UNDOs, The Hidden Tools™ gives you that. I have tested it up to 30 UNDOs)
No built-in Kodak CMS Support. Since CMS Support is built-into Windows XP, it is not necessary to have it in your image editing software. There may be situations that require you to have CMS in your image editor, but for most users these situations will never arise.
Can't Customize Toolbars.  This feature was removed from Photobook/PP10DCE, but I can help with it if you really need custom Toolbars.
Can't EXPORT a SELECTION to a File (You CAN Copy To New File and Save from there)
Can't Copy To Texture, or Brush Tip (A Workaround IS Available)
Can't Use Guidelines (Guidelines stored in a PPF File CAN be seen, but NOT adjusted. *Snap To Guides DOES work for these). Measure Tool can be used to create a non-printing line for visual reference similar to a single guidline.
NO Grid Settings Functions in the Program (*Change Settings with Registry Edit & Program Restart)
Tone Balance Limited to Master Channel with Histogram, Values Boxes with Probes, Auto Tone Correction, Preview, and Reset. If you need to Tone Balance RGB, HSL, or CMYK Channels, you can *Split the Image, Adjust each Channel, and *Recombine. Not as simple, yes, but it does work.
NO Size Object Dialogue Box. You can still size  an object by "dragging the handles".
NO Lighting and Bumping Tabs in Light Studio (Has 89 Presets that can be adjusted and resaved. Custom Presets from PP8 can be imported thru Registry edit)
No Adv. Printing/Prepress Options in the program interface (You CAN access most of these through the Registry)
